STEP 18 - HACKS FOR YOUR PET

NOISE TAMER

The emotional benefits of aromatherapy for humans is no secret. We calm down with Lavender, ground ourselves with Frankincense, and uplift our hearts with Citrus Oils.

But did you know that Essential Oils can be just as effective for Lucky or Spike? If your pup hides under the bed when the first clap of thunder sounds, try this noise tamer diffuser blend.

PEACEFUL PUPPY DIFFUSER BLEND RECIPE

• 3 drops Lavender Peace Restful Blend

• 2 drops Frankincense Essential Oil

• 1 drop Bergamot Essential Oil

EAR CLEANER

Some dog breeds are notorious for their susceptibility to grimy, irritated ears. This Ear Cleaner Blend can help keep ears clean and healthy:

FURRY EARS CLEANER RECIPE

• 10 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil

• 10 drops Frankincense Essential Oil

• 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil

• 10 drops Basil Essential Oil

• 10 drops Geranium Essential Oil

• Fractionated Coconut Oil

Combine Essential Oils in a 2 oz. (50ml) spray bottle (glass is best). Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil. Shake up and spray on the inside flap of your dog’s ear.

NOTE: Never spray directly into the dog’s ear, as this can cause damage to the ear canal. Work into the ear by gently rubbing the outside of your dog’s ear or using a cotton ball to spread mixture.

SKUNK ODOUR

Hopefully you’ll never have to deal with a dog who’s gotten too close to a skunk, but if you do, Essential Oils can help de-skunk-ify your home.

Once you’ve given your dog the traditional tomato juice bath, mix five drops each of Lavender, Wild Orange, and Siberian Fir into your dog shampoo. If the smell persists after washing your dog, try five drops of each oil in half a cup of baking soda and sprinkle on.

CAUTION: If you decide to substitute other oils for this recipe, make sure any oil used is suitable for ingestion, as your dog will probably lick his fur at some point during the process.

If your dog has spread the odour to furniture or carpets, sprinkle some of the baking soda and Essential Oil mixture on surfaces, let sit for half an hour, and then vacuum.

For lingering odor in the air, diffuse five drops each of the oils that make up the above blend and/or the Purify Cleansing Blend. Vinegar can also help absorb skunk smell, so consider putting that in your diffuser along with the Essential Oils. As we’ve already discussed, vinegar and Essential Oils are great for cleaning your diffuser, so this way you can accomplish two cleaning jobs in one.
